Dust (1992) for organ and soundtracks
When my charwoman in Pedraza de la Sierra in Spain dusted my piano, wiping the keys with her duster, accidental small clusters of whole and half tones were heard. Beautiful! 'Que bonito, Sesaria!', I said. She laughed, showing her only tooth. This is how the piece should sound, like an ode to decay. Dust should be performed on a small dull organ, with the breath of the organ mingling its equal tempered dusty tones with the 1/4 and 1/8 tones of the soundtracks, whirling like mouldy Gregorian. Composed for Willem Tanke, with financial support of the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst (from the score Dust, Donemus 1992)
