Elegy (1972) for soundtracks and female voice (ad libitum)
This dramatic soundscape results from studying the sound properties of children's voices and sine waves. The summation tones of this material were edited in an analogue studio dating from this period. With the assistance of the Greek Apostolos Panagopoulos, Nel de Ferrante recorded the texts which were taken from a tombstone dating from 360 B.C. found in the vicinity of Athens. The legible fragments were placed in the timescale of the soundscape. The whole forming an intense yet abstract dirge: a true Elegy. (from the sleeve notes of the CD Looking Ears 3)
