Mobile (1965) for soundtracks
This work resulted from systems of statistical divisions of sounds. Form, time, dynamics, silences, pitches and filterings were arranged and edited in the studio, thus creating new musical gestures. Mobile was created from the fusion of aural values and numerical ones. The work was awarded the Gaudeamus Prize in 1966. (from the sleeve notes of the CD Looking Ears 3) The basic material of this piece consists of a strict regularity of sound-elements, which are obtained by means of numbersystems. These orderings in time were recorded on tape and the results were developed and selected by means of studio manipulations. Selections were made on the basic of further evaluation of the composer and ordered in four groups:
The title is derived from an analogy with a moving object in time, visual in the plastic arts and abstract in music, the sounding structure is recorded on magnetic tape. (from the Music Information Centre Donemus MuziekGroep Nederland)
