Rain (1982) for 4 pianists on 2 pianos and soundtracks
The sonority of a rainshower stood model for this composition. The sounds of rain were recorded on tape and transferred by electronic means to strings so as to set them vibrating. The noises of the rain were also used to trigger voltage-controlled apparatus. The total merges into the sound of an indoor rainshower for four pianists on two pianos and loudspeakers. The piano parts are to be performed live with the tape. (from the liner notes to the LP Ton Bruynèl) Originally commissioned by the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst for the Orgella Quartet, which later became the Dutch Pianists' Quartet.
