Translucent II (1978) for soundtracks and string orchestra

Translucent II is a version of the string quartet from 1976 Translucent I. In this composition the central theme is formed by a coloured noise, belonging to the family of stringed sounds, known as fiddlesticks rubbed with rosin, with which the strings are being vibrated. A large group of fiddlers brings a kind of noise-curtain into existence mixing with soundtracks, resonating in a concert hall by means of loudspeakers. These soundtracks on tape have been composed by means of a similar process. The string-orchestra is finding its way through small intervals between the soundtracks. The entire composition melts away with misty sound fields, as if evaporating.
